Social Support Training
This training is appropriate for anyone who supports mothers during the perinatal period and is required for all PSVa social support volunteers.
All trainings are on Saturdays from 9:30 am — 4 pm with optional networking from 4 pm – 5 pm.
Registration fee includes course materials, refreshments, and lunch.

Topics include
- Overview of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
- Treatment options and intervention strategies
- Roles and responsibilities of social support volunteers
- Launching and leading peer support groups
- Role-playing difficult situations
This training is limited to 20 people to provide sufficient time for interaction, role-playing, discussion, and feedback. The curriculum includes an overview and information about postpartum depression and related perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), including how to distinguish between the baby blues and PMADs; how to handle difficult situations; the definition, value, and types of social support; and role-playing common issues and support group scenarios that arise when supporting women experiencing PMADs.
