Julia Christian

MSW Student Intern
(she/her)

Julia Christian is a Richmond, Virginia–based human services professional, patient advocate, and Master of Social Work student at Virginia State University. With more than 20 years of experience in human services, including nine consecutive years in healthcare and advocacy, Julia is passionate about supporting individuals and families as they navigate complex medical, social, and emotional challenges.

Prior to entering the private healthcare sector, Julia served on the Medical Outreach Team at VCU Health System before, during, and following the COVID-19 pandemic. There, she supported vulnerable and underserved populations experiencing barriers related to the social determinants of health, assisted with a federally funded grant food-access initiative, and supervised pre-medical student interns within her department in the Emergency Room. Since 2021, Julia has worked at Somatus, Inc. as a Patient Advocate within a Hospital Liaison Program, providing case management, care coordination, advocacy, and resource navigation while helping patients address gaps in care and build sustainable supports.

Julia earned associate degrees in Social Work and Psychology from Rappahannock Community College, graduating magna cum laude, and completed training in Grief and Bereavement Counseling through Brightpoint Community College. She later graduated summa cum laude from Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Individualized Studies with focused study in social work and continued professional development toward Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) recognition in Virginia.

In 2026, Julia served as a Crisis and Trauma panelist for the NAACP Virginia State Conference Housing Justice Conference, contributing to conversations about the intersection of housing instability, trauma, health, and family well-being.

Now pursuing her MSW at Virginia State University, Julia is honored to join Postpartum Support Virginia as an MSW intern. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge of perinatal mental health while contributing her experience in healthcare advocacy, trauma-informed support, grief and loss, and resource navigation to PSVa's mission of supporting individuals and families throughout the perinatal journey.

PSVa Support Groups will be on holiday break from 11/26/25 until 11/30/25.
